MGSM Networker is a group of entrepreneurially minded graduates and students of MGSM who get together regularly to exchange ideas, meet new people, learn new things, and to network, both physically and virtually. The best jobs, and the best business opportunities come from networking. MGSM Networker is a volunteer run and managed organisation which works closely with MGSM and the Macquarie University Alumni.

MGSM Networker was inaugurated in Sydney in 2003 and now includes a Hong Kong group as well. MGSM Networker in Sydney has run more than 40 events with a combined audience of over 1,000 people, as well as supporting a variety of ad-hoc activities such as special interest groups (SIGs). MGSM Networker has had over 40 guest speakers, many of whom have been high profile business identities or leaders in their field as well as graduates of MGSM. Examples include Dr Peter Farrell (CEO Resmed), Keith Williams (Proteome Systems), Tim Pethick (Nudie Juices) and Don Meij (Dominos Pizza). MGSM Networker also facilitates the start up of new businesses via pitch fests and business plan competitions.

Activities

The network runs a number of activities:

• major networking events held every 2 months;
• Special Interest Groups (e.g. The carbon marketplace, business owners, online/internet businesses);
• virtual incubators and Nanyangs;
• entrepreneur business planning competitions; and
• this web site and collaboration tools.
