Valerie Khoo - co-founder and director of Taylor & Khoo

Valerie is co-founder and director of Taylor & Khoo (www.taylorandkhoo.com) ? a fashion and homewares enterprise combining glamour and philanthropy. Taylor & Khoo uses business principles to alleviate poverty in the developing world by putting all profits from the sale of its merchandise into food, medicine and other basic necessities for a Cambodian orphanage.

Taylor & Khoo also supports income generation for disadvantaged groups in Cambodia. Its clothing and homewares are made by individual seamstresses and workshops that employ disadvantaged groups. The ultimate aim of Taylor & Khoo is to be a self-sustaining, profit-making venture that will continue to generate funds for orphans in poverty in the years to come.

Valerie is also founder of the Sydney Writers? Centre ? Australia?s leading centre for writing training. Valerie will share her insights on:

  • her journey in becoming a social entrepreneur
  • the principles of social entrepreneurship she applies in her business.
  • how you can be a change-maker and make a difference in a way that's aligned with your goals
  • bringing business principles into not-for-profit organisations
  • the lessons learnt along the way
  • plans for the future
  • how being a entrepreneur and champion for social change are not mutually exclusive!
