The Group Buying Market PhenomenaThe group buying market place is fast becoming one of the hottest areas of online business. Based on the success of the US business Groupon, Australia's Scoopon (26% market share) together with Spreets (21%), Cudo (19%) and Jump On (13%) lead the massive growth of the group buying market place in Australia. Investors are seeing the value of these subscription based businesses with James Packer being part of an group that recently invested $80m for 40% of Scoopon and Yahoo!7 paying $40m for Spreets in January this year. What is the future of this market? Will the golden goose be cooked as a multitude of other players now enter the market? Or is is the market still only at it's infancy? Is it a viable and sustainable marketing channel for businesses looking to keep their head above water in a sluggish retail market or will it prove the deal knell for fragile businesses with poorly structure offers? Our next MGSM Networker Event will explore these questions in details from both the perspective of entrepreneurs looking to move into the group buying space, or for those entrepreneurs exploring this as a suitable way of marketing their products. Guest SpeakerOur guest speaker is Nick Gonios who has a 20 year career spanning across slow moving large multinational tech companies (Microsoft, Fujitsu, OpenText & Gartner) and fast paced tech startups (Peakhour, Smooth, 3eep and Insqribe). Main experience is in focusing on growth via business development or strategic partnerships, commercial program development and product development.
He is currently involved in transaction revenue based online businesses with a focus lead generation across niche vertical markets. Nick is married and is a father of two young boys.
